Back in the Day — Take Two
The Times recently ran this photo submitted by Karen Demuth Hill of two West Memphis Firefighters battling a fire on Broadway in 1972. The fireman on the left was originally identified as Vernon Mills (understandable, since that is Mills’s jacket being worn). However, once the photo saw print, Ms. Hill was quick to send in a note. “Just received this from the West Memphis Fire Department: ‘That’s Otis Rushing in Mills coat. It was a big fire and grabbed Vernon Mills coat.’” Rushing was the man offering an assist to be Walter Adams while he chugged a Coke for a little much-needed hydration. Have any cool “flashback photos” in your personal collection? Send them in along with any pertinent information and see them in the pages of the Times.
