West Memphis athletics launches student-led streaming network

WM School District The West Memphis Blue Devil Sports Network has been officially launched.

The student-led network will stream live out-oftown football and basketball games starting this Friday night when the football team plays at Wynne. Last week, the network got its feet wet with an audio-only account of the West Memphis- Blytheville game at Hamilton-Shultz Field.

The media team features sophomore Luke Martin as the network’s play-by-play voice.

“Broadcasting is one of my dreams,” said Martin. “This whole project is exciting because it’s student-oriented. I just love sports in general and this is like a dream job for me.”

As the network evolves the live streaming will also include a broadcast of the 2020 graduation exercises at the Academies of West Memphis next May.

Other key figures in the project include students John Ryan Henson, Jonathan Thompson, T’Nyah Burnett, Freddie Thorne and Deadrick Crawford.

The rest of the media team includes seniors Terriny Morris, Lane Blair, E’marae Williams, Wilnarius Dent, Chloe Kauffman and Dedrick Price, juniors Arquel Porter and KeShawna Bell and sophomore Demario Miles.

The project is spear-headed by West Junior High principal Chad Martin while Katie Hutton, who heads the multi-media department at AWM, will provide assistance.

“It’s just going to be team work,” said Hutton. “We’re still finding connections for our students to be prepared for this type of career in the future.”

The new project also includes a live website at http://2484989-staging.
