West Memphis man charged with capital murder

Within hours West Memphis Police detectives had in custody a suspect in Monday night’s deadly drive-by shooing that claimed the life of a 39-year-old West Memphis man and have since charged the alleged shooter with capital murder, Assistant Police Chief Robert Langston said. Langston identified the man as Greg Northington, 38, of West Memphis. In addition to the capital murder charge, Northington has also been charged with three counts of discharging a firearm from a vehicle.

The victim, identified as Reco Eason, was shot multiple times by his assailant using a rifle as he and two other individuals were walking along the 300 block of South 20th Street before midnight.

When police officers arrived on the scene minutes after the shooting Eason was transported by ambulance to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis where he was later pronounced dead as a result of the multiple gunshot wounds.

“The vehicle that the suspect was a passenger in pulled alongside the victim and opened fire with the rifle,” Langston said.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene before responding officers could reach the scene, but Langston said detectives were able to obtain enough information from witnesses to locate, question and later charge Northington with the murder.

As previously reported, neither of the two people walking with Eason were injured in the incident.

Langston added that while there has been an arrest in the case, the investigation is continuing.
