Our View ACLU meddling in Arkansas affairs again

Share

Time and time again we’ve been told of how our local police officers are distracted from doing their job because of having to run down repeat offenders carelessly released from jail on questionable bonding tactics.

And, how many times have there been story after story of repeat offenders, criminals on parole involved in violent crimes in not only West Memphis, Crittenden County but throughout Arkansas?

Then we have all these “kinder and gentler” recommendations, suggestions and ideas as to how to better treat criminals and ways to reduce the number of convicted felons locked up in our overcrowded prisons and jails, while at the same time, placing the safety of law-abiding citizens in jeopardy.

For many in law enforcement, particularly here in West Memphis it is a revolving door situation that leaves them with their hands tied and very frustrated.

But, the liberal do-gooders, such as the leftist Arkansas branch of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), known to fight for immigrants, flawed voting rights, supposed justice reform and more, are making known their intentions to intimidate state politicians to decriminalize “pot” and simply eliminate cash bail for criminals that cause havoc on our city streets.

Oh, and by the way, there is also a push to force politicians to come up with alternatives to prison meaning more headaches for local law enforcement officers.

Let’s stop right here for a moment and pose these questions to those individuals among us who have some sense of reality an sensibility.

Why is it that all we hear about lately is the rights of those who do harm, commit crime and play havoc on the innocent law-abiding citizens? What about discussions and recommendations that pertain to the innocent victims who have been assaulted, robbed, raped and even murdered by these lawless so-called human beings that groups such as the Arkansas branch of the ACLU want to embrace, feel sorry for and defend?

Instead of coddling to these estimated 18,000 convicted felons in our state prisons why isn’t there some discussion on tougher penalties, work camps and other tactics that would discourage anyone from wanting to be sent prison.

We’re not talking about the days of the chain gangs but legitimate hard labor work programs in addition to justified training programs that are prone to rehabilitate. Sadly, we are becoming a nation where we are being led to believe “Big Brother” government is suppose to take care of us from birth to death, raise our children, provide us with free feed, shelter, clothing and coddle us when we stray.

It’s called failed socialism folks and a social system that elite liberals and career leftist politicians embrace for the sole purpose of controlling their subservient population.

As far as these harebrained ideas from this liberal ACLU bunch we would only hope our elected politicians use some good, God-given common sense when looking them over before taking any action that may only cause more frustration and taxpayer expense.
