GriefShare offers support for those who’ve lost loved ones

New semester begins at FBC Marion Feb. 1

ralphhardin@gmail.com GriefShare, a nationally active support group that helps individuals and families deal with the loss of friends and family members, is launching a new semester seminar Monday, Feb. 1, at 6 p.m. at Marion First Baptist Church.

“GriefShare is a warm, encouraging and helpful event that helps one deal with the intense pain of grief from the loss of a loved one,” explains Debbie Williams.

Though GriefShare operates throughout the year around the country, this is a chance for local residents to be a part of an outreach program close to home. Local couple Ronnie and Debbie Williams will be facilitating the two-hour seminar. Ronnie Williams considers the program “very personal.” The couple lost a son, Lance, in 2006. Having lost a son, Ronnie says he “knows people are hurting.”

“People need to know that they are not alone,” Williams says. “There are people who can be there for them. God is there for you. You might not see it now, but He’s there.”

Attendees will watch videos, hear testimonials from individuals who have difficulty dealing with their loss and have the opportunity to share how their own grief is affecting them. The program also includes small-group discussion and devotionals “No matter how long it’s been since your loved one died, grief can be overwhelming,” said Williams. “Join us for an encouraging seminar that will help you discover new reasons to enjoy life again.”
