ASU Media Relations JONESBORO, Ark.

(6/30/16) – The Arkansas State men’s golf team has announced the fall portion of its 2016-17 schedule, which includes five tournaments in five different states beginning Sept. 1213 with the Sam Hall Intercollegiate in Hattiesburg, Miss.

A-State will enter its second season under the direction of Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year Mike Hagen, who led the Red Wolves to a school-record six tournament titles in 2015-16.

Arkansas State finished last season ranked No. 79 by Golfweek.com for not only its best national ranking since 2001-02, but also one of the biggest turnarounds in the country after completing the previous year ranked No. 199.

The Red Wolves will kick off their 2016-17 season at the Sam Hall tourney for the eighth consecutive year before competing in the Memphis Intercollegiate, set for Sept. 26-27. Two weeks later they will play in the Mountaineer Intercollegiate in Bridgeport, W.Va., followed by the Pinetree Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Ga., Oct. 2425.

Arkansas State’s only three-day fall tournament, the Duck Commander Intercollegiate, will count as its final outing before its spring campaign. The tournament, hosted by Louisiana-Monroe, will be played in El Dorado, Ark., Oct. 30-Nov. 1.

“I’m excited about this fall’s schedule,” said Hagen. “We have three great additions with the Mountaineer Intercollegiate, Pinetree Intercollegiate and Duck Commander Intercollegiate. The combination of golf courses and competition will put us in position to have a great fall.”

While the Red Wolves lose three seniors from last year’s team, including Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt Conference selection Oswin Schlenkrich, they return six lettermen and have currently added two newcomers to their roster.

Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference selections Andrew Huseman and Tanner Napier are among A-State’s returning lettermen.
