Former Tigers join Grizzlies summer roster

MEMPHIS, Tenn. University of Memphis former men's basketball players D.J. Stephens and Shaq Goodwin have each earned an invite to play on the Memphis Grizzlies' Summer League roster, to compete in Las Vegas, Nevada, between July 8 and July 18 at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion.

Stephens, who played last season in the NBA DLeague with the Canton Charge and the Iowa Energy. He erupted during his 11 games with the Energy, averaging 16.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. The 6-5 forward also blocked 1.3 shots per game for the season, and hit 41.9 percent of his long-range shots with Iowa, making an average of 1.6 per game. A constant fixture on the NBA D-League Plays of the Day, Stephens played in Greece in 2013-14 before signing with the Milwaukee Bucks for a 10-day contract. He played in three games with the Bucks, averaging 2.3 points in just five minutes of action per game, while pulling down 1.7 rebounds per game.

Goodwin is one of just three players in program history to score 1,400 or more points, pull down 800 or more rebounds, and block 195 shots in a career, joining Keith Lee and Kelly Wise as former Tigers who accomplished the feat. He average 14.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in 201516, and was named to the American Athletic Conference First Team. During the season he set an American Athletic Conference record with 15 made field goals on January 26 against UCF, and stands tied for the American Conference record for rebounds in a game (23).
