Kessinger to be honored Friday

The West Memphis School District will honor former superintendent Bill Kessinger before Friday night's Blue Devil football game against Little Rock Central.

At 6 p.m. there will be a ceremony just outside the Academies of West Memphis indoor football facility where superintendent Jon Collins will dedicate that stretch of road as Bill Kessinger Drive.

The road will stretch from the entrance off Rich Road South through the houses on Oliver Street.

Kessinger, superintendent from 1973 through 2013, passed away in January of this year. The public is invited to the ceremony, which will be attended by Kessinger's family, including his wife Shirley, his son Mike, his daughter Kathy, her husband Tommy and sons Trent and Hayden as well as Bill's brother, former Chicago Cub great Donnie Kessinger.
