West Memphis picks up a pair of wins in New Madrid Classic

WM School District The West Memphis boys basketball team opened its regular season with a pair of victories in the New Madrid (Mo.) Classic over the weekend.

The Blue Devils (2-0) defeated host New Madrid 61-49 on Friday night before thrashing Kennett (Mo.) on Saturday 53-31.

In the win over New Madrid, junior Zachary Byrd led the scoring with 17 points while junior Kelsey Hubbard pitched in 13. On Saturday against Kennett, ninth-grader Chris Moore led all scorers with 13 points while twins Devin and Tevin Mosley each scored 8. Also playing well for West Memphis were Sidney Stinson, Curtis Washington and Demarious Hudson with 7 points apiece.

The Blue Devils open their home season this weekend in the Blue Devil Classic at Lehr Arena.

The action begins Friday with three games. The West Memphis junior varsity plays Nettleton at 5 p.m. while Nettleton varsity plays Houston High at 6:30 and the evening is capped off with the Blue Devils facing off against O.D. Wyatt High School of Fort Worth, Texas at 8 p.m.

Four games are on the docket for Saturday, beginning with the Blue Devil JV against Osceol at 4 p.m., followed by Earle against Nettleton at 5:30

p.m., Osceola versus Marion at 7 p.m. and the Blue Devils battling Houston High at 8:30 p.m.
