RiverKings win streak snapped

media@riverkings.com SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — The Mississippi RiverKings (7-4-0) made a push late, but fell to the Pensacola Ice Flyers (3-43) 2-1 on Wednesday night in Pensacola.

The Ice Flyers got the scoring started midway through the first period.

With Anthony Conti in the penalty box for goaltender interference, Nick McParland took a pass and wristed a shot past Peter Di Salvo to put Pensacola ahead 1-0.

Pensacola extended their lead early in the second.

Patrick Megannety took a pass from Louis Belisle and rifled a shot through traffic that slipped past a diving Di Salvo to give the Ice Flyers a 2-0 lead just under six minutes into the second.

In the third, the Kings cut into the deficit. Mike Moran collected a bouncing puck at the right circle and wristed a shot past a sprawling Matt Zenzola to bring the RiverKings within one. The RiverKings had a late power play, but the Ice Flyers held on for the 2-1 decision.

Peter Di Salvo (3-1-0) took the loss after stopping 36 of 38 shots against. Matt Zenzola (2-1-2) stopped 28 of 29 shots against.

The RiverKings converted on one of four power play opportunities, while holding the Ice Flyers to one for three with the manadvantage.

The RiverKings return to the ice on Friday night as they travel to Columbus to take on the Cottonmouths at 6:30 p.m. The RiverKings will return to the Landers Center on Saturday night to take on the visiting Knoxville Ice Bears for the annual Dachshund Dash.
