Recognition keeps coming in for the West Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau. Ramona Taylor relayed the good news from the Advertising and Promotions Commission to City Council meeting last week.

CVB Director Jim Jackson pointed out nominations for a pair of accolades to the A& P Commission at the January meeting. The field has been narrowed to three nominees.

“I want to brag on our department here,” said Jackson. “The West Memphis CVB has been nominated for the Natural State Award. We are a finalist, and that will be given away at the upcoming Governors on Tourism in March.

“We got notification yesterday that we are a finalist for the Arkansas Delta Byways Festival of the year for February 17 in Little Rock with our the Big River Crossing event.”

The grand opening celebration and A& P efforts to underwrite parts of the Big River Crossing have put Jackson and the West Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau in the spotlight.

Taylor echoed those announcement and summarized other A& P news for city councilors.

“We will be hosting the 2018 Governors conference on Tourism, “said Taylor.

“Final approval for our new welcome signs was received by the St. Francis Levee District and the site is flagged for construction,” said Taylor. “Hopefully by spring we’ll have our signs up along the Interstate.

“Commissioner Frank Waggener was re elected by Commissioners to serve as chairman in 2017.”

City council approved Waggener’s next term as commissioner in a unanimous

vote.
