The Marion Junior High Patriots desperately wanted to remain 6A Conference champions and played like it during a 57-40 victory over the East Red Imps.

The Junior Patriots, who have won their conference each of the past three seasons, made sure the Red Imps knew who the conference title belonged to, jumping on East Junior High 23-11 in the opening stanza.

Makyi Boyce and Detrick Reeves carried the Junior Patriots in the first quarter, pounding the Red Imps early with 10 and 9 points, respectively.

Boyce and Reeves cooled off in the second and third quarters, only knocking down a total of 3 combined field goals in that stretch. Their teammates, however, did not.

Accompanying the two lead scorers, Darrius Waterford drained a pair of three-pointers during the second and third stanzas.

Jordan Mitchell also got in on the three-point fun, knocking down a trey in the final quarter of play.

Dylan Thomas knocked down a pair of field goals as well. James Lowery and Ontaveous Jefferson also chipped in during the Marion victory.

While the entire team contributed to the Junior Patriots third consecutive 6A Conference championship, Boyce and Reeves blazed the way in the victory. Boyce pumped in 18 points to lead the Junior High guys, while Reeves finished hot on his teammates’ heels with 17 points.
