MPD warns of Marion Water Department online payment scam

Marion Police Department Chief Gary Kelley and the Marion Police Department would like to warn Marion residents of a Marion Water Department Scam.

There is a legitimate bill paying service online which can be accessed through a link called Doxo.com and includes a directory of city services.

The City of Marion Arkansas Water Department is listed on this link, along with the Water Department phone number (870) 739-3073.

The problem is, the city is not a part of this system “It misleads Marion residents to make their Water Department payments through this link,” said Kelley. “This link is only used if municipalities sign up for this service. The City of Marion does not use this service for making payments for water bills.”

A few Marion residents have already been scammed of their money when they clicked on the link and made a payment.

A directory of services along with the City of Marion Water Department appears when you access this link.

The City of Marion does not currently offer any type of online payment option.

Customers can mail their payment in, drop it off during business hours or in the after-hours drop box, or sign up for auto-draft payments.

“Don't get caught up in this scam,” warned the chief. “If you have any questions call the Marion Water Department directly at 870-739-3073 and they will advise you of the proper procedure to pay your bill.”
