Maddux Dreamers win ASU Quiz Bowl

Students shine in Black History competition

Maddux Elementary students recently won first place in the elementary division of the third-annual Black History Quiz Bowl competition held at Arkansas State University. The Maddux Elementary Dreamers were aptly named by their coach, 3-6grade literacy coach Carla Ely.

'I want all our students to know and be proud of our rich heritage as they aspire to become lifelong learners and become productive citizens,' Ely said. 'Our students must know that they can reach their dreams.'

Before the competition at ASU, students participated in various field trips such as attending Slave Haven, visiting the Civil Rights Museum and going to the movies to see 'Hidden Figures.' Students also participated in many after-school study sessions.

The team members include Jakayla Beason, Andrrea Ceasar, Charlyze Jamar, Azaria Jones, Ramiracle Munford and Traveon Williams.
