ASU Mid-South’s Phi Theta Kappa holds 2017 Spring Induction Ceremony

Scholars recognized by national 2- year college honor society

ASU Mid-South “You are part of an organization that has much to offer you as you work to complete your education.

On average PTK members receive approximately $2,500 in transfer scholarships for two years to assist with degree completion,” said Dr. Debra West, Chancellor of ASU Mid-South, as she spoke to newly inducted members of ASU Mid-South's Beta Epsilon Psi Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society.

The local chapter welcomed ten new members Thursday evening, March 30. Current PTK members and ASU Mid-South staff presided over the Induction Ceremony, held in the Donald W. Reynolds Center Rotunda.

Spring 2017 Inductees include: Tamia Brown, Jackalyn Burger, Tabitha Cooney, Brandy Fletcher, Carma Furr, Jennifer Roberts, Mariah Stokes, Joseph Tucker, Kesha Wagster, and Sheila Williams.

Chartered in the spring of 1997, ASU Mid-South's's chapter includes over 100 service-oriented students with a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher in at least 12 hours of course work leading to an associate degree.

Phi Theta Kappa has recognized academic achievement in two year colleges since 1918 and is the only internationally-acclaimed honor society serving institutions with associate degree programs. The organization's mission is two-fold: Recognize and encourage the academic ASU

achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.

Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 2.5 million members and 1,275 chapters located in all 50 of the United States, U.S. territories, Canada, Germany, British Virgin Islands, Republic of Palau, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of the Marshall Islands and the United Arab Emirates.
