Master Gardeners to host annual plant sale

Fundraiser benefits local scholarships

Crittenden County Master Gardeners The Crittenden County Master Gardeners are hosting their annual plant sale on Friday and Saturday, May 12-13 across from the courthouse to raise funds for their scholarship fund.

Perennials, annuals, stepping stones, Adirondack chairs and tables along with other patio furniture and special items will be available for sale. The sale beings at 9 a.m. on Friday until 4 p.m., and continues on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The local group has raised and given away thousands of dollars to local students who are pursing degrees in areas of agriculture or horticulture since 2006. This year's recipients are Anna Lee Parker, Ashley Beyer, Michael Smith, Brandon Moore, Grant Bennett, Tanner Bratton, Austin Cates and Matt Moore. Each of these students received $800 in scholarship money for their education.

The Master Gardeners spend the spring working in their greenhouse planting and propagating plants for the sale. The Gardeners will be on hand during the sale to provide plant information as well.

The Master Gardeners work with the local University of Arkansas Extension Office to educate the community and beautify neighborhoods. Locally this group maintains seven gardens in Crittenden County. Master Gardeners have completed the 40 hours of educational seminars hosted by the Extension Office and give over 40 hours every year in service and education.
