Macklin arrested in Faulkner County; mother charged for hindering apprehension

ralphhardin@gmail.com AWest Memphis teen wanted for murder is in custody, and so is his mother.

Malik Macklin, 17, was arrested last Thursday after two weeks on the run from authorities. Macklin was wanted on a count of First Degree Murder in the death of Desmond Davis on July 5. Macklin was also charged with Battery in the 1st Degree wherein Davis’ mother was shot in the same incident.

Macklin was taken into custody in Conway, Arkansas, by members of the United States Marshalls Office Eastern Arkansas Task Force. Macklin will be held pending pickup at the Faulkner County jail in Conway.

Macklin, it would seem, had some family assistance in evading capture.

“At the same time, Malik Macklin’s mother, Melica Macklin, was taken into custody by West Memphis detectives for Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution in West Memphis,” West Memphis Police Department Enforcement and Criminal Investigation Division Commander, Captain Joe Baker said.

“Melica Macklin was found to have provided money and resources to assist her son in his flight from authorities.”

Melica Macklin is in custody at the Crittenden County Detention Center, held on a $7,000 bond set Friday in a West Memphis District Court hearing.

Derrick Brown, 18, is already in custody on a murder charge for his alleged role in the North 28th Street shooting.

“We would like to thank the United States Marshall’s Office for their assistance in this case,” said Baker. “Any time we have a fugitive apprehension the USMS is willing to assist in the effort and does a great job quickly bringing these dangerous fugitives into custody.”
