DeltaARTS’ Prepares Educators, Artists at Workshop

For the first time in its 12 years, DeltaARTS hosted its annual Aesthetic Education Workshop at its new home, the Glenn P. Schoettle ARTS Education Center, June 20-22. Through the elements of aesthetic education – questioning, art-making, contextual research, and reflection – educators and teaching artists viewed and explored two works of art for focus, “Nut ReMix” by New Ballet Ensemble and recycled collage art by Memphis artist, Karen “Bottle” Capps, challenging the participants to create their own interpretations of both works throughout the week. The teachers will incorporate these focus works and their newly-honed skills into their classrooms during the school year, when the teaching artists will partner with them to design and implement classroom residencies built around the students’ attendance of “Nut ReMix” along with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts in Memphis and Capps’ exhibit, “ASSEMBLAGE,” at ASU Mid-South. This program is supported in part by the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, and by the National Endowment for the Arts.
