Marion Police issue warning on break-ins

Burglaries on the rise this holiday season

ralphhardin@gmail.com Marion Police Lieutenant Detective Freddy Williams took to the department’s Facebook page recently to alert the citizens of Marion about a string of residential thefts in the city.

“There has been a rash of home burglaries around the city, primarily in the center of town,” Williams said.

Williams listed areas that have seen a majority of the break-ins. “Shiloh Drive, Forrest Street, Alta Vista near Brunetti Field, L.P.

Mann, and Dogwood Cove,” he said.

Burglaries often spike around the holidays as thieves are aware that homeowners are often out shopping or at holiday events, leaving recentlybought gifts out where they can be easily grabbed.

Many of these burglaries are also occurring during the day when many are away at work.

Williams urged people in the community to look out for one another.

“Everyone help keep an eye out for suspicious individuals, especially during the daytime,” said Williams, adding, “Most homes are being accessed from the backyard.”

Keeping a watchful eye, he said, will help catch those responsible.

“Help out your neighbors and the community by being proactive,” he said.

“We ask anyone who may have security video around these areas the last couple weeks to give us a call at the Marion Police Department.”

Williams reminded resi- dents of the mantra, “If you see something, say something!”

“Let us check it out,” he said. “All tips are confidential and you can receive a reward for tips leading to an arrest. Stay safe!”

Anyone noting any suspicious activity can contact the Marion Police Department at (870) 739-2101.

Anyone with information about these burglaries or other crimes can contact Crittenden County Crime Stoppers at (870) 7324444.
