WM Councilman calls for overhaul to city’s trash plan

Pulliaum: ‘ We need to take a look and see what we are going to do’

news@theeveningtimes.com The wheels have come off observed one West Memphis city councilman. James Pulliaum said too many people leave their household garbage on the roadside 24/7/365 and during the monthly public works commission meeting called for help from city residents.

“To keep our city looking like it should, we need some help,” said Pulliaum.

The councilman said their is no reason to put the carts out on the curb anyway, because the city offers backyard pick up. Pulliaum had an idea why the carts stay out.

“Wheels are broken off the trash containers,” said Pulliaum. “The rubbish is sitting out front because the resi- dents won’t pull their cart back to the back yard. We need to take a look and see what we are going to do with that.”

Pulliaum suggested a drive around survey of some overlooked trashy spots in the city during the next public works commission meeting. Critters were some of the culprits.

“If we drive the city and take a look we will see some of them spilling over, and trash bags on the ground, which shouldn’t be,” said Pulliaum. “Animals, not just dogs, but squirrels and everything like that scatter the trash everywhere.”

Keep West Memphis Beautiful Chairwoman Lorraine Robinson agreed and wanted commissioners to ride around the city to see the litter. She indicated parts of the city are just down right dumpy.

“Maybe people just stay in their own little crevice,” said Robinson. “”It’s really horrible. Parts don’t even look like a city, they look like something else. Take a look and go on down Jackson.”

“I say it every year,” said Pulliaum. “We need to come together with community development, get a van and drive around together to take a look and see, get a sense of what things looks like.”

Commissioners wanted the call to control the garbage broadcast through out the city. Councilor Ramona Taylor requested information be put in the utility bills and set before and after the city council meetings shown on cable access TV.
