Shooting death overnight in WM

Police investigating violent incident at Westwood Apartments

ralphhardin@gmail.com The investigation is still in its early stages, but West Memphis Police Department investigators are working to piece together the details of a shooting early this morning that left one person dead and sent another to the hospital.

According to preliminary reports, the double shooting occurred overnight around 3:30 a.m., at the Westwood Apartments on 407 South Avalon near Auburn Avenue.

Two people were shot, say police. One was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. The other was shot in the hand and was transported to a Memphis hospital, reported to be in stable condition.

Details remain scarce as police continue to work the case.

“At this point we do not have a suspect,” said West Memphis Enforcement and Criminal Investigation Divisions Commander Capt.

Joe Baker. “We are still working to notify next of kin.”

Baker did confirm that the deceased was an 18-yearold black male. The department has not released any details about what may have led to the incident.
