Five generations strong

The Pipkin Family recently celebrated two milestones commemorating five generations. The family traces its roots to Alexander T. Pipkin and Bessie Irene Pipkin, who were married on June 6, 1935. The Pipkins operated a commercial fish business in Proctor where they lived their entire lives until passing away in 1993, 3 1/2 months apart.

The couple had 12 children — 9 boys: Vernon, Junior, James, Tommy, Paul, Larry, Delbert, Walter, and Jerry, who did not survive birth; and three girls: Shirley, Marie, and Betty. The current five generations of women began with Shirley Irene Pipkin, daughter of Alexander and Bessie; she gave birth to her daughter, Peggy Sue King in 1960; Peggy gave birth to four children, two boys and two girls. Daughter, April M. Ramirez, gave birth to two boys and four girls: Selena, Sarah, Kimberly and Paula. Selena, the oldest of the four girls, gave birth to Ariana Elizabeth Ramirez, who represents the fifth generation.
