West Memphis Christian School played out of state and travelled out of conference to down Coldwater High School. The Black Knights anchored by senior stars found themselves in a league of their own against a younger blue and gold Cougars winning 4414. WMCS put up 22 points in each half. WMCS stood at 4-2 after the Friday night girdiron match-up and Coldwater dropped to 1-6 on the season.

“They were a young program ns the rebuilding stage,” said Black Knight Head Coach Marcus Davidson.

The Cougars surprised the Black Knights with a couple of big plays leading to its two scores. Coldwater switched up in obvious passing downs and broke a pair of big runs.

“We held them pretty well in check all night,” said Davidson. “The two scores they got were off of long runs from third and long situations. We just lost containment and both of their scores were on long runs.”

Senior safety Graham Dickerson impressed the coach swarming to the ball with with a pair off linebacker hemming in the Cougars for most of the night.

“He had a really good night,” said Marcus Davidson, “along with linebackers Malik Washington and Grayson Edwards.

Outstanding play from the backfield in a diversified attack sparked the offense, earning one back the game ball. The passing game featured senior quarterback Parker Benson.

“We tried the passing game the first half,” said Davidson. “We did not have has much success passing as I would have liked to have had. We had some drops and blocking was a challenge, so some of his throws were rushed.

“I have shown the passing attack for two reasons, primarily to get people out of the box against us, and two, to showcase Parker for college to let people know he can pass too, rather than just running the ball.”

The second half featured the patented potent WMCS ground attack.

“The second half we came out and just pounded them with traps and the veer,” said Davidson. “We pretty much had our way with them. Parker facilitated the offense and distributed the ball well. He allowed the other guys to execute our offense to perfection. Most of the time he gave it on the dive because they were giving it to us. The times he had to pull it, he kept the ball just long enough to pitch it to the slot. His execution made it all happen all night.”

The backs and the slots became beneficiaries of the ball handling beginning at quarterback and chalked up big numbers on veer option plays. The coach provided highlights before the official stats totaled.

“Matthew Land had a superb night,” said Davidson. “He probably had 150 yards. He averaged 8-10 yard a carry. If I had had a game ball to give over it would have been to Matthew Land. He along with Malik Farrow had another great night as well and made for our main running attack.”
