It wasn’t as big a blow out as it was against Marked Tree earlier this week, but the Earle Lady Bulldogs posted another big double digit win, nearly doubling up East Poinsett County 61-31 on Friday in Earle.

Earle led 10-7 after the first period, but that was the closest the Lady Warriors would get the rest of the way. The Lady Bulldogs took a 24-17 lead at halftime, then piled on the points the rest of the way, holding EPC to only four points in the third period to take a 42-21.

The Lady Bulldogs added 19 more in the final period and allowed only ten points in the fourth period.

Head Coach Corey Garrett said he knew coming in that EPC would present a tougher challenge than Marked Tree, and his squad for executing well on defense all night.

“We had a pretty good ball game,” Garrett said.

“I’m more pleased than I was Tuesday when we won by such a large margin. Nothing against Marked Tree, but they’re not supposed to score 40 points. The defense was the main thing. I saw some better things tonight that we worked on. Defensively, we had a good effort.

We held them to 17 points in the first half and 31 overall. So defensively, I think we played a heck of a ball game. I'll take that every game.”

Garrett said he continues to stress executing their plays and to not look at the scoreboard. Despite the wide margins the team continues to put up, he still sees areas to improve on.

“We came off a little flat in the first period,” Garrett said. “We still have some things we need to do better. But overall, I was pleased.”

Garrett said he got a great effort from the bench, singling out the play of Tierra Rogers, Dekayla Anthony, and N’Kya Mathis, who scored seven points.

“Those three came off the bench and brought some intensity, which is wat you need sometimes,” Garrett said. “I brought them in toward the end of the first quarter when we were flat. Those three were really key to what we were doing.”

RoShala Scott led the team with 20 points. Colbi Maples scored 16 points and pulled in six rebounds.

Earle and EPC girls struggle over a loose ball. The Lady Bulldogs came away with the win Friday night.
