Have you enlarged the e-edition of the paper? The icons are below the screen and I can’t return to the next article. Very annoying.

May have to come by the paper to show you what I mean. It just started with this week’s paper. Haven’t had any problem before the September 2nd edtion.

[Editor’s Note: This is the only complaint I’ve received about this. I pulled up the e-edition on my computer here at the office and on my phone and didn’t see anything out of the ordinary.

If you are still having issues, please do bring your device up here and we’ll be happy to see if there’s anything we can do to help]

*** For just a moment, think about you would want to help people in need during a time of need. Basically I’m talking about a hurricane that affects so many people. [Editor’s Note: It’s always a tough call when disaster strikes in regard of “How can I help?” And it’s different in different situations. Most of the time, if something specific is needed, it’s stuff like water bottles, canned food, clothing and toiletries. But in most cases, if you really want to help, getting money into the hands of the people who do disaster relief for a living is probably the best way to go.

I remember when Hurricane Katrina hit, there were reports of cases and cases of bottled water just stacked up in shelters but babies didn’t have diapers and folks didn’t have blankets. That makes me think that money — even knowing that in many cases it’s only cents-on-the-dollar that gets to the people who need it — is a better donation than actual material goods]

*** I am SO HAPPY that you have seen the light about the garbage can issue in Marion. I wrote you about two years ago and you were unconcerned at that time. It IS a BIG issue if we want Marion to look clean and neat. This is about moving the garbage cans back up from the street after the trucks have passed.

Yes there are elderly and physically handicapped but most people are just LAZY.

I know the 4 people ARE who live on my street. They will take 20 plus steps to the street and back a couple of times a day rather than 5 steps to the can at the side of their house. I guess they consider it their exercise for the day! The bottom line for the non lazy people who care about their yards and neighborhoods is that the city PROMISED (lol) when they wanted new trash cans that the people who didn’t move them back from the street would be FINED.

$25 comes to mind. Maybe $25 is not much for the city to waste their time on but the 65 cans I counted one Sunday afternoon between HWY 77 and service road and Mound City Road and high school might be worth it. That’s not even counting other neighborhoods. Once again when people ride through our streets and see can after can it looks trashy.

[Editor’s Note: Yes, I am now on board with keeping my trash bin in its proper place (although I now forget to put it out about once a month). The real turning point for me, and I may have told this story before, was when one of the other reporters here went out to take a picture of the big blue bins being left out by the curb… and he came back with a picture from MY cove with MY Dumpster left out. So, out of shame, I began begrudgingly keeping it by the house. And it’s a good thing too, because my neighbors at my new house are STICKLERS for observing protocols on trash bin ettiquette]

*** Please tell the public where the new schools are going to be built… I am voting for it but would like to know…

[Editor’s Note: According to my unofficial sources, the new West Junior High School is going to be built right behind the old West Junior High School. It is my understanding that the new Wonder Junior High (which will consolidate East and Wonder) will have frontage on East Broadway, but that an exact site has not been determined. There are a couple of spots that make more sense than others, like the spot on the south side of Broadway along 13th Street that was the original prospective site for the new Jackson-Wonder Elementary]

*** Hello! Please clear this gun carrying without a permit…

is there any TRUTH to it?

[Editor’s Note: The short answer is YES. In fact, Arkansas is now one of the most gun-friendly states in the country. The governor, attorney general and head of the Arkansas State Police have all said that “open carry” is now the law of the land in the Natural State. Not only is it legal to openly carry a firearm (as long as you’re not committing a crime at the time…

which should be obvious, but for whatever reason, it’s specifically mentioned in the law) but there is no longer any requirement for a permit to carry a concealed firearm, thanks to Act 746.

Now that’s the state’s stance. There are still regional, county, local and other restrictions that apply, but yes, to answer your question you do NOT have to have a permit to carry a gun in Arkansas, as long as you are not legally prohibited from doing so for some specific reason in regard to you personally (such as being a convicted felon). Now, I definitely understand your confusion as the issue has been debated since 2013, but I think this latest Arkansas Court of Appeals ruling in October of 2018 finally laid it all out… at least until it changes again]
