• Mississippi River Monster Tournment — On Wednesday Sept. 18, some of the worlds best catfish fishermen will gather at the Bass Pro Shop in Memphis to try to win $75,000 worth of cash and prizes.

If you are interested in this tournament, the registration dead line is Sept. 18 and can be done at the web site. The entry fee is $250.

Almost 100 teams and 250 anglers have already entered. Quite a few of the fishermen will be staying in West Memphis due to the proximity to the Mud Island launch site. There will be a Friday night meeting of the captains from 5-9pm at the Civic Center and it is free to the public to discuss rules. Earlier on Friday, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Bass Pro Shop, free seminars concerning catfishing are available.

Saturday Sept. 21, is big day with the 3 p.m. weighin and the giving out the awards. Bill Dance will be on site and will act as Master of Ceremonies. For more information, call 901291-8200.

• Kyle’s Sportsman Benefit — Saturday, Sept. 14, from 5 to 9 p.m. Help a local hunter who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Proceeds will help with his medical expenses. 50/50 drawing, live and silent auction, live music. $10 BBQ Rib Plates, Boston Butts $35, Racks of Ribs $20. VFW West Memphis dine-in or carry-out, 406 S.

• Hunter’s Education Course — Saturday, Sept.

21, beginning at 8 a.m., at Widener Baptist Church.
