Not a good look, Rick…

If you’re like me, you probably watched the events of last Wednesday afternoon unfold on the TV screen or maybe your computer or phone. I honestly don’t know what I expected the protests in Washington to bring, but I don’t think anyone predicted a mob forcing its way into the Capitol Building and breaking into the House and Senate Chambers.

But here we are. With the president’s approval, the rioters made their presence felt during what was supposed to be a perfunctory reading of the electoral votes and now four people are dead. To quote Senator Mitt Romney, “This is what you get.”

But, to quote Vice President Mike Pence, “This is still the people’s House,” and the vote went on after a few hours’ delay. Fortunately, many of those who came prepared to stubbornly oppose the counting of the vote decided, given the violence and death, all in a futile effort whose futility was well known way ahead of time, withdrew their objections.

But you know who didn’t? Congressman Rick Crawford.

Yes, that’s right. The very man who represents you and I as our AR-1 Representative (who ran unopposed in November) looked at the carnage of the insurrection and thought it would be a good idea to still plow headlong into the pointlessness. The other three House members from Arkansas and both U.S. Senators from our state put the U.S. Constitution and the people of this nation and state ahead of party politics, but not Crawford. There are actually calls for his resignation. It won’t happen.

But he will be up for re-election in 2022…
