hour lunches … arriving late … leaving early … Just hanging out at the substation with his a$$ kissers! The chief is useless! /try Globfone [Editor’s Note: Is that … Is that an advertisement at the end of your text? I know commercialism is everywhere but I didn’t realize they were attaching themselves to the end of text messages now. Anyway, clearly you have some strong opinions about the Chief of Police, and I get that. I don’t know if you’re the same person who texted in last week or not about the same issues, but again, I’m not sure there’s anything there to really be that angry about. But again, I’m maybe not as heavily invested in the issue as you seem to be] I have been wondering why the obituaries aren’t in the paper anymore. I might see one a month, is it just the online edition that doesn’t have them? [Editor’s Note: Let me assure you that we do, in fact, still run obituaries in the paper, so you haven’t missed any. We have de_nitely been running fewer of them in the past year or so. The primary reason is we simply haven’t been receiving them as often as we used to. For several months, during the initial shutdowns from COVID-19, there just weren’t many funeral services being held, so there weren’t funeral notices being published. But really, the interest in having an obituary published in the local paper has simply decreased dramatically over time. I guess with the advent of online obituaries that most funeral homes have, a lot of people are content to simply do that. Or I guess they’re content to simply post funeral arrangements on Facebook or whatever. Personally, I still think printed obituaries are worth doing, and not just because I want to sell papers. I have obituary clippings for several of my relatives and friends and I _nd that more tangible than simply looking at an obituary online. But hopefully you’ll see that there are two obituaries in today’s paper, so yes, we are still doing that] Attention everyone: The entire country is hiring! If you can’t _nd a job now, it’s because you aren’t looking! Stop living off the system and get back to work! [Editor’s Note: The one thing that makes me a little angry about this is that many places are offering sign-on bonuses to people that are getting hired, but I do wish they would also offer the same bonus to people who have been getting up and going to work this whole time. I’ve been fortunate that I’ve been able to work from home for a little over a year, but there are plenty of people who have not had that luxury and have basically been putting themselves at risk for the past 19 months to provide whatever services it is that they provide to the general public.] Marion Water Department is a joke! First they over charge me then they won’t credit the charges they admit were incorrect and now I have a leak and they tell me it’s MY problem! What even happened to customer service? [Editor’s Note: I can’t help with you with the _rst part of your problem, but I can tell you that when it comes to a water leak, if it’s between the meter and the street, it’s the city’s problem, and if it’s between the meter and your house, it’s your problem. I’m saying this from _rsthand experience. I’m also letting you know from _rsthand experience to get at least a few estimates before you hire someone to _x it. The _rst guy I had look at my leak wanted $1,800 to _x it. The second guy wanted $950. But I called Patriot Plumbing and they came out and _xed it that afternoon in about 30 minutes and charged me $125. Best of luck!]
