Is West Memphis having a fall festival?

you think the county could put up a sign on the road through the city of Sunset that says NO THRU TRUCKSALLOWED? They _y down that road and some kids might get hurt. [Editor’s Note: Could they? Sure, assuming you mean John H. Johnson Boulevard and not Highway 77. Will they? I don’t know, primarily because I’m not sure how trucks would get from the Service Road to Highway 77 (and vice versa) if not by that road. Maybe a series of speed bumps would be a better solution… although that little connector bit between Johnson and 77 is enough of a “speed bump” on its own. It’s like driving on the surface of the moon… probably because of all the trucks] Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t the homecoming court supposed to be one white and one black maid from each class? Also, every other year was supposed to be white and black homecoming queen. This is the third year in a row for a black queen. I am wondering why this has not been done. If it were the other way around there would be something said. [Editor’s Note: There’s a lot going on here. First, let me say that Homecoming and all of its festivities are primarily for the students. Sure, it’s a community event, but the schools and the student body are in no way obligated to do things in a certain way. Second, there has de_nitely been, in the past, some pretty shady methods of selecting the Homecoming Court (at many schools, not just West Memphis) over the years in the name of diversity or equality or whatever, but that’s simply not the world we live in. I can de_nitely con_rm that is hasn’t been that long ago that students were told something like “vote for one white girl and one black girl” and such. Clearly you can see the problems with that, right? What about mixed-race students? What about Hispanic, Asian, Indian or other racial groups? That sort of system was outdated 30 years ago. Third, unless something has changed, the football team votes on the Homecoming Queen, and it’s simply a matter of fact that most of the time, a majority of the football team in West Memphis is made up of Black players, so it can’t be surprising that a black student would be named Homecoming Queen most of the time, right? Fourth, if you think dealing with racial balance is an issue, look up Homecoming controversy on the internet some time. Other schools are dealing with same-sex couples as maid/escort, trans girls or gay boys being elected to a spot on the Homecoming Court, and other issues, so many schools are actually doing away with the idea of a Homecoming Court at all to skirt around the “problem” altogether. And I put problem in quotes, because it’s really not a “problem at all, because, _fth and _nally, again it’s all about the students. Let them choose who they want to represent them on the Homecoming Court and be done with it]

[Editor’s Note: Not that I know of. Marion is having their Esperanza Bonanza next weekend, and the City of West Memphis is having their annual Trunk or Treat for Halloween, but I don’t think there’s anything like the old “Livin’ on the Levee” or the more recent “Left Bank Festival” planned for this fall, most likely due to COVID-19 concerns] Anyone know why there’s an Earle School District school bus coming through Heafer and parking at the gas station at I-55? Isn’t this the Marion School District now? A little strange if they’re waiting to pick up a student. Wonder who’s paying for that arrangement?

For the gas? Some sort of special fee? I know lots of folks like to _nd conspiracies in everything these days, but maybe not here. It’s possible that at least part of what you’re thinking of as Heafer is in the school district. Those boundary lines can do all sorts of twists and turns. If I’m guessing, and I de_nitely am, it’s because a bus driver lives out there and it just makes more sense to park their bus there than to drive all the way to Earle and get the bus each morning and then drive back out to run their route, which might not make sense but as short as most schools are on bus drivers these days, they might be more accommodating to their drivers] Never saw any follow-up concerning shooting at Sonic a couple of weeks ago. Said police had suspects. What ever happened? [Editor’s Note: That is the latest that has been reported. From what I was told, the police knew immediately who the shooter was and warrants for his arrest were issued, but that’s as far as the news has gone. My understanding is the shooter was a minor, so unless he is charged as an adult, we won’t be releasing his name. I can con_rm it was a personal issue and not some random act of violence, so there’s not some Sonic Serial Shooter on the loose terrorizing the community or anything]
