Late fall bass ripe for the taking

The bite is still on all across Arkansas

Arkansas Wildlife Editor Collin Hodges (right) was fishing for crappie with minnows on the Saline River last Sunday with Tom Snyder when he accidently caught a very nice bass instead.

With a beautiful sun hitting the trees and water just right, it looks like it was a good day all around on the Saline. Kudos to Snyder for capturing the moment.

temperature drops. Also, we've seen trout added to the Lake Catherine tailwater recently, and Shane Goodner reports good news on that front. Jon Conklin up at Beaver Lake reports that the lake turnover appears complete and the stripers' fall migration is ON. Heading to the opposite end of Arkansas, Lake Erling below Lewisville has a good crappie bite and a GREAT catfish bite (and we've seen for ourselves that Erling has some big flatheads and channel cats, and there are blues as well). Crappie are still biting really well at Lake Conway.

And please welcome Dave McCulley, owner of Jenkins Fishing Service in Calico Rock, to the weekly Fishing Report. We've needed to hear from the White River in that area, and Dave will be checking in regularly. He says that with the low water on the White now, gold-colored spoons worked well this past Tuesday on the gravel bars, and sunrise Power Eggs with shrimp worked well in the deeper holes.

Dave added, “My dad caught a 5-pound rainbow, and one of our guests caught a 19-inch brown trout.” (photo below left).
