John Criner’s recent

I n column, he asks, “Do any of my liberal readers have anything positive that Pres. Biden has done for our country? I am hardly a liberal but I can easily answer that question. 1. Biden got elected fair and square, by a large margin. 2. He is not Trump. Biden is a lifelong political hack. He is denitely nobody special. But since Trump lost the election, the stock market has soared, grain exports to China have increased at record levels, and new coronavirus cases are down 60 percent nationwide. These are not necessarily the result of any direct actions by Biden.

These are things that happen after an incompetent, unt incumbent gets kicked out of ofce. There are MANY voters in America like me who are moderate, sensible and not afliated with either party. Maybe after Trump goes away, we can vote Republican again. Trump is his own worst enemy, not the Democrats. Criner, nobody reads your column for your political insight. I am not worried about wicked Socialist Democrats taking my hunting guns away, and I don’t need a 30 shot magazine to shoot a duck or a deer. [Editor’s Note: You know, I wondered if Mr. Criner would get any blowback for his political commentary. I will say, it might not seem overly obvious, but the president and the government in general can have an impact in the realm of hunting and _shing. You might or might not know, but it was President Teddy Roosevelt, an avid outdoorsman, who created the _rst national parks and federal wildlife reserves. If you’re looking for other achievements of the Biden Administration, I can tell you that Biden’s _rst year in of_ce saw the greatest single year of job creation in U.S. history, with 6 million new jobs created.

The unemployment rate also dropped from 6.2 percent in 2020 to 3.9 percent at the end of 2021. If you care for such things, you might also like to know that the child poverty rate is the lowest it has ever been, health care expansion increased to more than 5 million more Americans, the U.S. made its largest investments ever in ending hunger, climate change, and clean air and water. Biden might be able to accomplish more if parts of his own party weren’t _ghting his agenda in Congress] The bombing, and destruction, of a hospital, especially a maternity one is horrendous and without doubt a war crime. No one can justify this. The lack of concern from Putin shows his character and how wrong his actions are. Someone has to stop Putin, by economics, pressure, isolation, condemnation but not by violence as there has already been too much violence. Support and pray for Ukraine but don’t ght, let Peace win.

invade Russia, especially in the winter, is never a good idea? (Just ask both Napoleon and Hitler). Well the “Russia” that is so hard to invade is actually Ukraine.

It’s interesting to see Putin trying it also seeing limited success. While I don’t know if the Ukrainian people can withstand the full force of the Russian military in the long run, hopefully Putin will pull out before the country is completely devastated. In the aftermath, I’m wondering if we’re headed for a second Cold War in the near future] Is Marion going to pick up these tree limbs? Where is our mayor? [Editor’s Note: He’s actually right down the street from me as I type this. Is he supposed to be out there picking up tree limbs? Just so you know, the sanitation department is out there every day collecting the debris from the recent ice storm. In fact, they are waiving the normal collection fee for debris removal through the 24th of March, so if you haven’t gotten your fallen limbs to the curb, you still have time]
