Few contested races in 2022 municipal elections

ralphhardin@gmail.com When Crittenden County voters head to the polls in the upcoming 2022 elections, they will have many choices to make, selecting their preferences from among more than a dozen state and county races, as well as a number of voterled and legislative-driven ballot measures and initiatives.

One place, however, that many local voters will find themselves lacking in options is in their municipal races. All 13 incorporated municipalities in Crittenden County (Anthonyville, Clarkedale, Crawfordsville, Earle, Edmondson, Gilmore, Horseshoe Lake, Jeannette, Jericho, Marion, Sunset, Turrell and West Memphis) will hold elections for offices including mayor, city or town council, and other municipal posts (city clerk, treasurer, etc.)

However in most of the county’s local races, there is only one candidate for each office, and in a few, no candidate filed for the office.

Helen Harris Angela Eason Joyce Gray An important deadline to note is for registering to vote. In order to be able to vote in the November election, you must register with the County Clerk’s Office no later than Oct. 10, 2022. Frank Barton, Crittenden County Election Commission chairman has set the date and time for the ballot draw, which will determine in what order the candidates’ names will appear on the ballot.

“The County Election Commission is giving notice for the Ballot Draw meeting for the November General Election,” said Barton. “The meeting will be held on August 25, 2022, at 1 p.m. in the Quorum Court room at the County Courthouse.”

The public is invited to attend.
