The old adage “death and taxes” both seem to prove itself truer with every passing year and West Memphis is certainly no exception. Along with the new fees for park rentals increasing from $75.00 to $125.00 and a refundable deposit of $100.00 expected to be approved by the City Council also placed on it’s second reading at most recent city council meeting on November 2nd were several increases in local taxes.
The first to be considered by the council is an increase in the Mosquito Control Fee which will increase to $1.50 and is

included in monthly utility bills. This is still below the average cost for a city roughly the same size as West Memphis with the statewide average being $2.65.
The second increase will be annual Privilege License fees for Event Centers, Food Trucks, and Home Heath Businesses which will all increase to $150.00.
Finally, garbage collection fees will increase citywide with residences and single family apartments increasing from $16.50 to $18.50, apartment building with centralized pickups going from $14.50 to $15.50 and commercial businesses increasing from $30.00 to $35.00 for three garbage cans. Additional cans are $10.00 each.
The amendment to the ordinance is expected to pass in the next city council meeting on November the 16th.
