Work on the North Apron Rehab and Jet Fuel projects continue. Susana Cook of Garver Engineers reported that the notice of award sent to Crisp Contractors in November for the North Apron rehab project has been signed and work is expected to begin in the spring.

Ms. Garver also said that Rebel Service, the company who won the bid for the Jet A Fuel rehab project is still waiting to receive the parts for the fuel tank but that work was also expected to begin in the spring.

It was also reported at the most recent Airport Committee meeting that “Santa’s Arrival” held on Dec. 9 was a resounding success with many more people than the previous year and that the crowds are looking much more like the pre-COVID era.

It’s not one of the city’s most talked about amenities, but the West Memphis Municipal Airport sees activity year round. Back in October, fledgling pilot Ben McCall passed his checkride under the purview of instructor Victor Rather and David Childress. Crop dusters, private plots, tourists, traveling dignitaries and a wide array of customers use the airport thanks to its close proximity to Memphis and surrounding areas.
