Voter Registration deadline Feb. 5

The deadline to register to vote in the March 5 Preferential Primary Election and Nonpartisan General Elections in Arkansas is Monday, Feb. 5. To register to vote in Arkansas you must fill out a paper Voter Registration Application. You can pick up an application at the following locations: county clerk’s office, local revenue or DMV office, public library, disability agency, military recruitment office, or print a form to mail or request an application to be mailed to you at sos. arkansas.gov. You can also check your voter registration status online by visiting www.voterview.org.

Tornado Siren Testing The West Memphis Office of Emergency Management will conduct periodic tests of the city’s tornado siren warning system on Saturdays at noon. These sirens are located at: Tilden Rodgers Park, the J.W. Rich Girls Club, South Avalon at the VFW, 10th Street at Jackson, Goodwin at Garden Drive and MLK Drive at Beatty. If you have questions or concerns about the outdoor weather sirens, please contact the City of West Memphis OEM at 870-702-5159.

MYSA Baseball

Registration is underway for the 2024 Spring Baseball season for the Marion Youth Sports Association. MYSA will have five age groups: 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, & 11-13. The Registration is $40 and runs through March 22. Register online at gomysa.com.

Marion School Board

The Marion School District holds its monthly School Board meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Central Office, 200 Manor Street, in Marion. The community is invited.

Bingo Night

St. Michael’s Catholic Parish hosts Tuesday Night Bingo every week. Open to everyone ages 18 and up. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Games begin at 7 p.m. Smoke free and alcohol free. Concessions available.

West Memphis School Board

The West Memphis School District holds its monthly School Board meetings on the third Tuesday of the month, at 6 p.m., at the Central Office, 301 S. Avalon. St., in West Memphis. All meetings are open to the public.

High School Completion Program

Arkansas residents ages 21 and older who do not have a high school diploma can now finish school online for free through a new program from Graduation Alliance called the Arkansas Adult Diploma Program. Graduates earn an accredited high school diploma. According to a press release, Graduation Alliance can offer this program for free through a state-funded initiative administered by the Arkansas Department of Education Division of Career and Technical Education. To qualify for the program, applicants must be an Arkansas resident, 21 or older, have access to a computer and the internet, have completed at least some of 10th grade, and have not completed a GED or another high school equivalency diploma. Civil Air Patrol

Civil Air Patrol meets the first, second and third Monday of each month, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the West Memphis Municipal Airport. Young people ages 12 and up can join the cadet program. The Woolfolk Public Library in Marion is launching a Book Club this fall. Signups are going on now. Stop by the library, 100 N. Currie St., to get an information packet.
