The West Memphis School District is having its first-ever two-week Spring Break under the new academic calendar.

While it’s a sureity that students will be enjoying the break from classes, it’s a fact that many children living in the West Memphis School District depend on their daily lunches, and even breakfast and a take-home dinner, so two weeks away from school could mean two weeks without proper nutrition.

With the goal in mind that no kid goes hungry, the district has announced it will be providing meals for the duration.

“The West Memphis School District is pleased to announce its plan to distribute Spring Break meals for students on March 15, the district announced via a blast message and on social media.

“If you are interested in your child receiving a meal pack, be sure to let your child’s principal know,” said the notice. “This initiative is part of our continuous effort to support and nourish our school families, particularly during the Spring Break session.”

Many will recall that the school district distributed meals to students during the height of the COVID-19 pamdemic in 2020 and 2021. As was the case then, the meals are free of charge, courtesy of the WMSD food program.
