Bank robber sentenced to federal prison

JONESBORO — A Jonesboro man has been sentenced to a total of 14 years in a federal prison for two armed robberies that occurred two years ago.

Jimmie McDuffy, 48, must also pay $3,870 in restitution to his crime victims, Chief Judge Kristine Baker ruled Monday. After serving his 14year term, McDuffy will remain under supervised release.

McDuffy robbed the Quick Shop at 1325 S. Caraway Road, shortly after midnight on April 14, 2022, taking $535 in the robbery, then made off with $3,335 after robbing Arvest Bank at 3101 Southwest Drive that afternoon, according to court documents.

The Quick Shop’s surveillance cameras showed that an employee was counting money from the drawer of the register when McDuffy, wearing all black and a ski mask, with a red undergarment entered the store. He walked up to the counter, pulled a gun, stuck it through the plastic COVID barrier, and brandished it at the cashier, who was about three feet away.

The suspect then pulled the gun back through the barrier and cocked it, chambering a bullet. He then walked around the counter, pointed the gun at the employee and grabbed money out of the drawer with his left hand. The suspect stuffed the cash in a pocket and fled. During the incident, the surveillance system recorded the suspect stating, in a deep voice, “give me the money”, “right now”, and “give it up” repeatedly.

Around 3:20 p.m., McDuffy, wearing black, a black hoodie, a red undergarment, a black facemask, and clear food service gloves entered the Arvest Bank and brandished a firearm at the tellers on duty.

While pointing the gun, Mc-Duffy paced between the tellers and, in a deep voice, repeatedly stated “give me the money” and “hurry up” and “all of it,” according to the federal document.

Jonesboro Detective Christopher Pigg identified McDuffy after reviewing both surveillance videos.

He compared tattoos seen on the video with photos on file at the Craighead County Detention Center. McDuffy had seven previous felony convictions prior to his arrest on the robbery charges, according to Craighead County Circuit Court records.

An arrest warrant was issued and McDuffy was arrested in Little Rock.

Following his arrest, detectives seized and executed a search warrant on his phones.

“One of his cellphone contained a video, created on the same day as the robberies, which depicted McDuffy holding up a large amount of cash fanning it out with 13 $100 bills,” according to the court document. The web search history on the date after the robberies included searches for “robbery porn videos,” and other related topics.

McDuffy pleaded guilty Oct.

17 to two counts of brandishing of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. Two robbery charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

While awaiting the outcome of his federal case, McDuffy was sentenced to five years in an Arkansas prison for possession of 24.2 grams of methamphetamine during a 2022 traffic stop in Jonesboro.
