Sarah Huckabee Sanders fans who’ve been holding their braath worried about the pending FOIA lawsuit against here for her likely illegal purchase of a $20,000 podium and her efforts to cover up said purchase can all breath a sigh of relief after a Pulaski County judge dismissed the suit yesterday.

Whew, that was close. We almost had someone being held accountable for their actions…

Same deal the day before with the judge who decided it would be best for everyone (mostly Donald Trump) if the former president’s trial was postponed indefinitely (as in, after the November election). We wouldn’t want any pesky judicial processes getting in the way of an accused criminal (44 times over) who is trying to secure the highest office in the land.

Now, let’s not pretend this is anything new. People in power

have all sorts of resources at their disposal to remain in power. Judges are just one of those many tools.

More that 20 years ago, the band Good Charlotte had a hit called “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous” calling out the privilege that wealthy and powerful people have here in the U.S. A few sample lyrics: “Well did you know when you were famous you could kill your wife and there’s no such thing as 25 to life, as long as you’ve got the cash to pay for Cochran.”

“And did you know if you were caught and you were smoking crack, McDonald’s wouldn’t even want to take you back, you could always just run for mayor of D.C.”

So how does this keep happening? Maybe this is just what happens when your entire society is built on capitalism? I mean if having a free market economy and a capital ist society is what we have, then maybe that’s just how it works. If the goal is to get rich and get powerful, then I guess it makes sense that the richer you are and the more powerful you are, the less and less you should be bound by the laws and rules that the less rich and less powerful are.

I’m not even joking. That really does seem to be the way it works. And I can’t really even argue with it. It’s very clear that there is some kind of threshold that once you cross it, you can do what you want.

Must be nice…
