Local veterans group receives funding for improvements

VFW happy to have EAPDD funds

jwright@eapdd.com The West Memphis VFW Post 5225 received funding to assist with new flooring and other improvements at their facility.

“This grant will have a great impact on our organization,” said Elvin Tate, Commander Marion/West Memphis VFW Post 5225.

“New flooring for our Blue Room creates great pride that we no longer have to feel embarrassed for the way our facility looks. We rent out our Blue Room for parties, receptions, and other events to assist with our monthly operating costs. We are very thankful for this funding opportunity.”

General Improvement Fund grants are administered by East Arkansas Planning & Development District and were secured by the 2015 Arkansas State legislature. This grant program connects resources available through the state with regional, economic, and community priorities.

“It is an honor to assist the VFW Post 5225 with their improvement project,” said Melissa Rivers, EAPDD executive director. “Quality of life and quality of place improvements have been identified as a priority for our region and with assistance from our legislators our communities are seeing positive changes.”
