FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.

— Arkansas basketball opened up the 2019-2020 season with a big win over Rice Tuesday night. In the first showing under new head basketball coach Eric Musselman, the Razorbacks topped the Owls 91-43.

With under eight minutes remaining, the Hogs had a 40 point lead. Their largest margin of victory last year was a 36-point win over Vanderbilt.

Mason Jones led the Razorback charge with 32 points, while Adrio Bailey had a team-high nine rebounds.

Isaiah Joe added in 24 points, five rebounds, and seven assists.

Prior to tipoff, Musselman announced the suspension of sophomore forward Reggie Chaney. The Tulsa native is suspended indefinitely, but can practice with the team until he meets the terms of his suspension.

Musselman also announced that Cal transfer Connor Vanover has been denied his transfer waiver by the NCAA, meaning that he will have to sit out the 2019-2020 season as a redshirt and will have three years of remaining eligibility.

Next up for Arkansas is another home contest. The Razorbacks host North Texas next Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Bud Walton Arena.
