26. Santa Claus is coming to West Memphis to flip the switch on the city’s Christmas tree in Worthington Park.

Plans include refreshments, including Christmas cookies and hot chocolate to go with the light displays in the park.

Children have the opportunity to sit on Santa’s lap to share their holiday wish list and have a professional photo taken. The holiday celebration begins at 6 p.m.

Marion First Baptist Church will host the West Memphis-Marion Community Thanksgiving Service on Monday, Nov. 25, at 6:30 p.m. Mark your calendars to attend and be blessed. Special speaker: Rev. Chester Witherspoon.

There will be no trash collection in Marion on Nov. 28 and 29, due to Thanksgiving holidays. The Thursday and Friday routes will be run in conjunction with regular routes on Monday, Dec. 2. There will be no trash collection on Dec. 24 and 25, due to Christmas holidays. The Tuesday and Wednesday routes will be run in conjunction with regular routes on Thursday, Dec. 26. trash pick-up.

• Civil Air Patrol — Civil Air Patrol meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the ASU Aviation Technical Center, 737 Taxiway Drive, in West Memphis.

Young people ages 12 and up can join the cadet program. Adults are needed to support the cadet program and emergency service operations. For more information contact Lt. Col.

• 40 & 8 Club — Steak night Wednesdays. Fish fry every third Friday of the month at 152 Legion Road, West Memphis. 735-0866.

• Families in Transition —

provides support groups for victims of domestic violence as well as teen dating violence. We also provide “Safe Dates” Adolescent Dating Abuse Prevention Curriculum to schools, youth groups and any organization focusing on youth ages 12 and up. If you are interested in attending a support group or participating in “Safe Dates”, please contact Nyya Denson at 870-732-4077. All services are provided free of charge through State and Federal funding.

• West Memphis Lions Club — The West Memphis Lions Club holds their meetings every first Tuesday and third Tuesday of each month at Shoney’s at noon.

• Global Academy USDA Food Program — Global Academy, Inc., located at 301 N. 7th St., in West Memphis, is participating in the USDA Food Program. Meals will be available at no charge or at a reduced rate to enrolled persons at the above location.

Eligibility is determined by income and household size.
