City sets alternate collection dates for holiday week

West Memphis city engineer Amanda Hicks has been pleased with the recent on-time performance in sanitation, but she says the city is aware of the challenges of the approaching Thanksgiving holiday.

“I’m not exactly sure how we will do it,” said Hicks.

“We may have to work some weekend overtime ahead of time or on the following weekend. I don’t know yet.”

The city’s web site published the Thanksgiving week garbage schedule as follows: Regular Monday and Tuesday customers will be serviced Monday, November 25. Regular Wednesday and Thursday will be serviced on Tuesday, November 26. Friday customers should have garbage cans out on Wednesday, November 27.

If all goes according to plan, the city will play catch-up on the week of Monday, Dec. 2. Plans are still being finalized for the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
