Elaijha Brown will be taking her basketball talents to Ouachita Baptist University after winding up her senior year at Earle.

Brown signed a letter of intent last week to play for the Tigers and said of the three colleges she looked at — Southern Arkansas University and University of Arkansas at Monticello were the others — Ouachita felt like the best fit for her.

“Ouachita was in touch with me every day checking up on me to see how I was doing,” Brown said.

“It made me feel like I was a part of their family. That was a big influence on me.” Brown said Ouachita saw that she plays with a lot of heart and spunk and is confident she will be able to earn a starting role and play right away.

“I’m a small person,” Brown said. “But when I am on the court, I make sure that I am a dog, I get the job done and try my hardest. So I think they saw the heart that I have.”

Coach Corey Garrett said Ouachita is getting a hard worker and a dedicated player who will make an impact on the court.

“She put a lot of energy and work into her game and in the gym,” Garrett said. “She has an unbelievable work ethic. I think with their style of play she will be a good fit. They need a quick guard and their play is similar to ours. She’s also the total package as far as academics and athletics. I’m very proud and excited for her.”

Brown plans to major in Biology and then move in to nursing after she earns her bachelor’s degree.
