Sam Smith inks agreement to play for ASU Mid- South next season

ASU Mid-South Sports Sam Smith, an All-State forward from Arkadelphia High School, has signed an NJCAA Letter of Intent to join the Greyhounds for the 2020-21 season.

Smith (6'6', 250 lbs.) helped the Arkadelphia Badgers to a 22-7 record and a share of the 4A-7 conference title with a 10-2 record before falling in the 4A South Region Tournament under Head Coach Donald Williams.

Transferring from Gurdon High School after his junior year, Smith averaged 23 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 blocked shot per game while shooting 60 percent from the field, 33 percent from the threepoint line and 70 percent from the free throw line in his lone season at Arkadelphia.

He was voted the top player in the conference while earning 4A-7 All-Conference honors, was named to the 4A All-State Team, and was selected to compete in the Arkansas Activities Association/Arkansas High School Coaches Association Basketball All-Star Game that was to be held at the University of Central Arkansas June 26-27 before being cancelled due to COVID-19.

Smith is the eighth ASU Mid-South signee this spring, following Torien Stewart from Southwind High School in Memphis, Cullen Brown out of Rivercrest High School, Jacob Hudson out of Cabot, Tae Smith from Blytheville, Jaaron Harriott from Sylvan Hills High School, Spencer Simes from North Little Rock High School, and Jeremiah Jones from Little Rock Central High School.
