Former Razorbacks getting swing in COVID- 19 shortened baseball season

arkansasrazorbacks.com FAYETTEVILLE — More than a dozen former Arkansas baseball standouts have been invited to 2020 Major League Baseball 60-man Summer Camps, the de facto “spring training” before the start of the upcoming season.

Teams will organize mostly at their hometown ballparks for the three-week preseason camp before the start of the 2020 campaign on July 23-24. It will be a 60-game season, with teams playing 40 games against its divisional opponents and 20 against the opposite league’s corresponding geographical division (AL East vs. NL East).

Included below is a list of Razorbacks in the MLB 60-Man Player Pools:

• Brian Anderson (3B) – Miami Marlins

• Jalen Beeks (RP) – Tampa Bay Rays

• Andrew Benintendi (OF) – Boston Red Sox

• Isaiah Campbell (SP) – Seattle Mariners

• Matt Cronin (RP) – Washington Nationals

• Dominic Fletcher (OF) – Arizona Diamondbacks

• Logan Forsythe (INF) – Philadelphia Phillies

• Dallas Keuchel (SP) – Chicago White Sox

• James McCann (C) – Chicago White Sox

• Blake Parker (RP) – Philadelphia Phillies • Matt Reynolds (INF) – Kansas City Royals

• Drew Smyly (SP) – San Francisco Giants

• Ryne Stanek (RP) – Tampa Bay Rays A total of 59 Razorbacks have played in the Major Leagues since Chuck Tompkins became the first in 1912. Jalen Beeks was the most recent Hog to make his MLB debut, doing so in early June 2018. In 2019, nine former Arkansas players were on big league squads.

Campbell, Cronin and Fletcher have yet to make their MLB debut.

Per MLB rules, teams must cut their rosters to 28 after 14 days of regular season play, which will begin on July 24 or July 24, and 26 after 29 days. Additionally, each club can carry up to a three-person taxi squad on the road once the regular season begins.

Players not on the active roster do not accrue Major League service team, so prospect clocks do not start unless they’re added to the active roster during the regular season. For more information on Arkansas Baseball, follow @RazorbackBSB on Twitter.
