Lady Greyhounds race past Cossatot Lady Colts

ASU Mid- South women’s basketball remains red hot ahead of Region 2 title game

asumidsouthsports.com After a tight first quarter, the Lady Greyhounds found their gear and raced past the UA Cossatot Lady Colts for an 86-60 victory in the NJCAA Region 2 Tournament semifinals to advance to the championship game tonight.

Leading 15-12 after one quarter, ASU Mid-South outscored the visitors 23-10 in the second frame for a 38-22 halftime lead. Then in the second half, the Lady Colts upped the scoring pace but were no match for the Lady Greyhounds.

Defense led the way for ASU Mid-South as they held UA Cossatot to 38.0% from the field and just 25.0% from the three-point line while shooting 54.0% from the field and an outstanding 50.0% from the arc. In addition, the Lady Greyhounds forced 26 turnovers while committing only 12 with 15 of those being steals.

Meleanna Williams and Alindavia Lockett led the way with 16 points each, and Lockett completed a double-double by adding 10 rebounds. Keiana Delaney hit for 15 points with 5 steals, and Kaylan Larry and Breanna Campbell scored 10 points each. Cierra Penn dished out 4 assists to go with 9 points.

The win puts the Lady Greyhounds (21-1) into the NJCAA Region 2 Tournament championship game which they earned the right to host by being the #1 seed. Their opponent is the #3-seed Southern Arkansas Tech Lady Rockets (12-5) who defeated #2-seed North Arkansas College (14-4) 67-63 in overtime in Harrison, Arkansas. The Lady Greyhounds are ranked #13 in the nation in the final NJCAA National Rankings. Game time tonight is 6 p.m. at The Dog House.
