Most people think of the ….

Most people think of the great soccer player Ronaldo as having god like skills and maybe that includes walking on water although so far, we have just seen his preference for drinking water over soft drinks. A wise choice. His moving of two display bottles lowered the value of the company by about $4 billion although only temporarily. What would those $4 billion dollars be able to do to provide safe, drinkable water to many people? Most people like an occasional soft drink but all people need to drink water. Maybe there could be a few big, maybe billion dollar, donations given to solving the worlds water shortages. Then more people would have the time to watch him play rather than walking great distances to bring back water that is probably not that clean. A simple message from Ronaldo but a particularly important one. [Editor’s Note: Full disclosure, I have no idea who Ronaldo is. That’s not to diminish whatever fame and influence he has or to be one of those “Soccer isn’t a real sport!” people or anything.

I just am completely ignorant of that whole world.

You are 100% correct, though, in that many times we ignore real issues that don’t affect us. Much like what Ronaldo does has no affect on my daily life and I have no interest in all in the World Cup or whatever big soccer event is happening this year (which I guess is the Olympics, right?), I seldom, if ever, stop to think how lucky I am to have immediate access to clean drinking water, when millions do not. Certainly makes you wonder about priorities] *** Just wanted to say that the boys and girls club did an excellent job with their soccer program this year. In the past when another group was putting the games together it was not done right but the boys and girls club put together fair teams and everyone seemed to be having fun.

[ Editor’s Note: Wow, two soccer related texts! That breaks the old record of none! But for real, though, I’m glad to see the boys and girls club having success. I always worry about our local sports programs struggling because there has been such a dramatic shift to playing on these traveling competitive teams. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with those teams, but they do take away kids who would otherwise be playing in local rec leagues and the kids who aren’t quite “ travel team” ready can get left with nowhere to play ball.

So, please continue to support all of our local youth sports programs!]
