West Memphis Police investigators asked the public for leads after a Friday night shots fired call turned into a homicide investigation. Patrol officers responded to the area of the 1600 Block of East Barton on a hot midsummer night, June 18 at about 10:30 P.M. in reference to shots being fired.

Captain Troy Galtelli reported what officers discovered.

“Upon arrival officers observed a vehicle in a driveway with the headlights on and the engine still running and then located a victim with apparent gunshot wound,” said Galtelli. “The individual was unresponsive at the time of the officers’ arrival.”

Police dispatched city medics who in turn delivered a grim report.

“EMS was contacted and made the scene,” said Galtelli. “The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.”

Detectives are currently investigating this incident and asked anyone with any information to please contact the West Memphis Police Department at (870) 732-7555 or Crittenden County Crime Stoppers at (870) 732-4444 with any information. All calls will be kept confidential.
