Two down, one to go…

In my adult life, I’ve basically had three jobs that I thought of as my “career” rather than just what I did to make money.

From 1994 to 2003, I worked at what was then called Southland Greyhound Park. Then, from 2004 to 2010, I taught history at Marion High School. And since 2010, I have worked at the Evening Times.

I figure I’ve got another 20 years to put in so we’ll see if I can keep doing this newspaper thing or if something else will come along. But for now, I’m actually more excited about what my kids are doing.

OK, first off, their not really “kids” so much. They’re 25 and 23. But they’re “my” kids. Anyway, we’ve known for a month or so that my youngest son would be starting his own teaching career this fall. In just a couple of weeks, he will be teaching social studies at West Junior High. He’s pretty jazzed about it, and I’m pretty jazzed for him.

Now, we’ve just learned that my oldest son will be starting his first “real” job next month. He’s got a law degree, but he hasn’t taken the Bar Exam yet. But just on his credentials, he’s starting work as a banking security analyst, which I don’t fully understand but from what I do, it seems to be right up his alley.

They’re both off to a great start at “adulting” so it’s nice to see years of parenting paying off. Now my wife and I can focus on making sure our baby girl (who is now 15) can follow in the footsteps of her big brothers. She’s starting high school in a couple of weeks, growing up fast!

Y’all pray for me…
