has happened several times in the past. I don’t understand why someone hasn’t taken care of the unsightly overgrown property. Is it a Manager’s responsibility? Well, hopefully by the time this hits the paper, Walgreens on Broadway in West Memphis will have mowed their property! The grass is at least a foot tall. It’s a shame for new residents or visitors to see this not to mention us local folks. West Memphis does place grass liens on property but that probably wouldn’t “wake” anyone up. Thanks for letting me vent. [Editor’s Note: No problem, that’s what we’re here for. I will say that I was just out in that area a couple of times this week showing our new staff reporter around town and I did not notice any super tall grass at the Walgreens. It could be that they have indeed mowed or that I just didn’t see it. I’m actually picturing that location in my mind and I can’t think of where any grass would be honestly. But you’re 100 percent correct. Unkempt properties in the community do paint us in a bad light and we need to do anything we can to keep a positive look in the city. I guess I can sympathize a little right now for those who haven’t mowed recently with the triple-digit temperatures though] I believe West Memphis- Delta Orthopedics cancelled my contract because I asked about their African-American hiring practices. They have no Black people working in the facilities but their clientele are majority Blacks. Fenter Physical Therapy in West Memphis cancelled me because I inquired about something that concerned me. Can you look into this and see why I was dismissed after asking about their hiring practices? [Editor’s Note: Short answer, probably not. While I can’t comment on your personal or professional relationship with either of these businesses, I also can’t comment on whether or not you might have some sort of agenda with this issue. I mean, are you specifically trying to get into the hiring practices/policies of these two businesses or are you doing this for every business in West Memphis. Are you only concerned with why these whiteowned businesses don’t have Black employees or are you also concerned about Black-owned businesses that don’t have any white employees? I’ll tell you this … when I need medical care (and trust me, I do more and more each day) I don’t care if the care provider is Black, white, Asian, Hispanic, male, female gay, straight, whatever… I just want help. I don’t know what kind of “contract” you had with Delta Orthopedics or Fenter Physical Therapy. Maybe your inquiries led to the cancellations. And honestly, in a free market society, that’s actually their prerogative. Maybe it was something else. Who can say. Racism is definitely an issue in our society but it doesn’t do anyone of any race any good to go looking for it when it’s not necessarily there] President Biden is patting himself on the back touting the fact that gas prices have fallen for 30 days straight and that the national average is expected to soon drop back below $4 a gallon. That’s all well and good but if “The President doesn’t have anything to do with Gas Prices!” is to be believed, then how is Biden to be applauded for the recent drop? [Editor’s Note: Even as a Democrat, I find Biden wanting none of the blame for the skyrocketing gas prices and all of the credit for lowering them to be pretty on brand for him and a little silly. If Biden’s measures are the cause of the price drop, why doesn’t he just do more of what he’s doing and get them back below $3 a gallon. It might help his party’s chances in November]
